I am the daughter of a pilot and this definitely had its advantages and disadvantages while I was growing up. My father had to travel a lot and for long periods of time especially during his navy years. He flew internationally and so always told me and my siblings about the amazing places that he got to see during his trips. For this reason, I grew up with a desire to see the world.
Fast Forward….
So, 6 years ago, with a big backpack, a small budget, and the whole world in front of me, I hopped on a one-way flight to Italy. I spent a year backpacking, followed by a year in Ireland, and have spent the last 4 years, teaching English as a second language, on the beautiful island of Sicily, in Italy. The crazy thing about this is that I’ve actually gotten the opportunity to see my dad more now that I’m living on a different continent than I did when living in the states. Every time he had a trip to Europe (which was very often), he would give me a call and I’d go and meet him for a few days wherever he was scheduled to be for work. I have 4 siblings, so this time that I got to spend with my dad, one on one, while exploring another country was so special to me. So, the combination of my childhood memories, the new travels with my father, and the many wonderful new travel conversations I was having with my ESL students are what led me to the idea of this book series.
